The Sandman is a very popular comic series, by Neil Gaiman, that (loosely) follows the life of Morpheus, the anthropomorphic representation of Dreams. In general, the stories take two forms--volume long story arcs that involve a series of events related to Morpheus and often his family (made up of Destiny, Death, Destruction, Desire, Despair, and Delirium), or single stories that are relatively self contained but may tangentially relate back to a story arc. Although the main arcs generally take place in the "present", many of the story lines shift in time and place. It lasted for 10 volumes (with an 11th volume that was produced over a decade later) and it produced several spin-off series. The focus of this site is the initial ten volume run.

The best way to understand the series is to read it, but for those of you who have not had the pleasure, I will try to summarize it and illistrate the way seemingly separate stories piece together to form a very intricate tale. A lot of the stories have very little to do with Nuala directly, but the only way to see the big picture of her story is to see the big picture of Morpheus's story, and that is a very big picture indeed. I'll break the general story down into volumes. Most of this will be straightforward summary, but there may be a little bit of interpretation where necessary.
